THE BENEFITS OF PORCELAIN VENEERS
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin porcelain sheets that are custom-made fit over the front surfaces of each of your teeth. The porcelain material resists staining better than resin alternatives and is also much better at mimicking the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Porcelain veneers can be used to fix the following issues:
• Teeth with discoloration. (Discoloration can occur due to a number of factors, including root canal treatment, stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride, coffee consumption, or smoking, and other factors.)
• Worn down teeth
• Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
• Uneven, misaligned or irregularly shaped teeth
• Teeth with gaps between them (porcelain veneers can be used to close the gaps between teeth)
Porcelain Veneers: The Procedure
Curious about how the process of applying porcelain veneers works? We’ve put together a short guide below. For more detailed information, contact our dental office at (425) 953-9002 to schedule an appointment with us today!
Consultation and Treatment Planning: During this phase, our dental professionals will sit down with you to provide you with information about porcelain veneers and to determine the exact results you want from your veneers. We’ll also take X-rays of your mouth during this phase.
Preparation: During the preparation phase, our dental team will begin by taking off a small layer of enamel from the surface of your teeth. This layer will be equal in thickness to the layer added by the veneers. Once this step is completed, we will then take impressions of your teeth and send them to a dental laboratory for the veneers to be made. Temporary veneers will then be placed while the lab fabricates your custom veneers.
Bonding: Once we have the veneers, we will test them on your teeth to make sure they fit correctly and look the way you want them to. We can adjust shape and color during this phase. Once the porcelain veneers are ready to be bonded, we will clean, polish, and etch the surface of your teeth to prepare them for bonding. A special cement is then applied to the teeth and the porcelain veneers are bonded. Excess cement is removed and your bite is evaluated for any issues. From there, our dental professionals will schedule a follow-up appointment to make sure everything is going well with your veneers.
