The benefits of dental bridges and crowns

Dental implants, such as bridges and crowns, are an excellent alternative to dentures and offer the ability to use your teeth normally without any loss of function or extra care for an oral prosthetic device. A crown replaces one tooth and is implanted in your jaw. Once the implant has fused with your jawbone, we’ll make an impression of your teeth and create a realistic, durable cap that will be anchored to the top of the crown. This process will create an even and regular biting surface and the crown will look indistinguishable from your other teeth. Fixed bridges act in a similar way for several teeth and are anchored into place and used to fill in the gap between two pontics, or crowns. Both bridges and crowns not only restore normal bite function, but they also keep your teeth aligned, ensuring your mouth retains a normal shape and will fill any gaps in your smile.

Effective dental implant restorations

No matter how well crafted, all dental implants can suffer from damage over time. Though not a frequent problem, the most common implant issues are due to a crown coming loose or a bridge or denture chipping. Dental implants can come loose if they were not seated correctly or didn’t fully fuse to your jawbone initially. If your jaw was lacking in bone density at the time of your dental implant procedure, this could occur. Dentures can experience cracks or damage if not properly cared for or if they sit uncomfortably in your mouth. At Issaquah Dental Health, we offer effective dental implant restorations that resolve these issues. Our team of dental technicians can adjust your dentures to fit your bite better and can offer effective crown and bridge restorations that will restore the look and feel of your smile. Common questions about dental implant restorations

What is dental implant restoration?

A dental implant restoration can refer to the implant itself (crown, bridge, denture, etc.) or to the process of repairing a dental implant. We offer both services and we’ll be happy to offer you a no-obligation consultation. Contact our office today.

Why did my dental implant fail?

Dental implants are typically very durable, but if yours has failed it’s most likely due to not having enough bone density in your jaw during the initial attachment procedure, or in the case of dentures, not storing them in a safe place. Dentures can also suffer damage if they sit incorrectly in your mouth and pressure is continually applied to the device in the wrong areas. Whatever the reason, we can expertly repair and restore your implant.

How do you treat a fractured dental implant?

For major denture fractures, typically a new denture must be made. For fractured or cracked crowns and bridges, a special composite resin can be applied to the top portions of the implant to strengthen the cap and restore its shape. If the damage is at the base of the implant, contact our office immediately since a new implant may need to be applied.

One of my crowns has come loose. What should I do?

If possible, recover the crown and visit our office immediately so we can provide urgent care. Without at least a temporary crown in place, you risk infection of the gums and damage to your other teeth.
